G.R.I.T.S Cooking and Apple Pancakes Giveaway!

If you don't like grits...you don't know one or haven't had them prepared correctly!  (it is not just a breakfast food...Girls Raised In The South)

Mr. Darling Husband whisked me away on an extended weekend mini vacation.  Just enough notice was given to reserve the Aunt Dee suite at The Baird House Bed and Breakfast located in Valle Crucis, North Carolina.  We had a delightful stay...Tom and Deede are so generous and gracious...the food was absolutely delicious.  In the spirit of sharing such an abundance of Joy, Adventure, Beauty and darn good food...I am hosting my FIRST ever blog giveaway contest.  So spread the word to make it more fun...leave a comment here or on facebook...what was your favorite unplanned event, trip or day...My grandkids will pick a name out of a hat on Father's Day and perhaps you will enjoy the following treats!  Seasons at The Baird House cookbook, stoneground buckwheat, whole wheat pancake mix, a pampered chef trivet and a few little surprises!

Mr. Darling Husband is a bacon, eggs truck driver breakfast kind of guy.  He raved and raved about the German Pancake with apples!  Other samplings included in the cookbook...hashbrown casserole, creamy eggs with dill (rapturous expression), homemade buttermilk biscuits with homemade apple butter made from the apples on the 200 year old apple tree outside the window of the Aunt Dee room.  AND one of my favorite amenities...the cookie jar is always full with the BEST chocolate chip cookies ever and a butter pecan pound cake is always on the sideboard in addition to tea, cocoa and other beverages!

These apples are on the 200 year old apple tree!

Ya'll join in for some good ole fashioned southern hospitality and charm!

p.s.  This cookbook is chock full of anecdotes, tidbits and history...all sorts of goodies.

Wow! Count me in! (Shove over, Dishy). I think my favorite impromptu outing was the day one fall when I was supposed to get up and clean, clean, clean, run errands, do laundry, etc. etc. etc. and when my husband woke me up, he said, "Let's go to Sea World for the weekend!" so we did, and spent several days and had a blast and began celebrating our 30th anniversary several months early and didn't stop until the following July! (Does this comment count for four since it's so long?) Glad you had such a goooooooood time!

I've had grits in the south (both at Shoney's and at a greasy spoon) and I'm sorry, but no...

Though, I will agree that G.R.I.T.S. are a group all their own.

I was raised southernish and I LOVE grits! I love to eat them with butter and a touch of salt :od
Hubby likes them with sugar, yuck!
As for surprize at a moment trip, never, never, never.
Hubby's not that type, if I don't plan it, it won't/don't happens :o(

Pick me me me me me! You're so generous with your goodies and with your sharing of cool experiences. Your enthusiasm is contagious.

Favorite trip? Hmmm. I love going and doing and seeing different things, but I think I'm going to narrow it down to going to Grandfather Mountain and walking across the Mile High Suspension Bridge. It was exciting, fun,and symbolic. I had just retired from the TERI program and saw walking the bridge as symbolizing a new chapter in my life.

I'm in! That sounds like a great place, I'll have to put it on my list of places we'll go. I'm sad to say that I can't think of an unplanned thing at the moment. You know me, I plan pretty much everything.

I think my favorite outing was back when I lived in New York and was working for a professional sports agent. A good friend of mine who was a baseball nut called me at 3pm on Friday and said, "If you can get tickets to the AAA baseball game in Buffalo, I'll rent a car and we'll hit the road. I've always wanted to have Buffalo wings at the Anchor Bar where they were invented."

I got the tickets through my boss, friend got the car, and with two hours notice we headed up to Buffalo, NY to eat wings, see Niagra Falls and root root root for the home team the Buffalo Bisons.

Beautiful weather, and a great pal to sing along to corny classic rock tunes in the car with on the long drive that just seemed to fly by.

Spontaneous, awesome, and one of my favorite memories! And yes, the home team won! :)

An unplanned trip is one of the things that isn't happening in my life. One of the sacrificies that need to be made to keep my diet and stay healthy. But is sure sounds great, just to drive away and be able to eat in a restaurant. Hmm. Oh well, it is a good thing I love to cook.

Have a great day and thanks again for the lovely link.

What fun! Count me in. Looks like that place was gorgeous! One of my favorite unplanned trips (well, I guess you could call it more of an outing) was driving up the canyon out here one night to see the stars. It's the only place you can see them because of all the light pollution, and I miss being able to step outside and see all the stars. It was lots of fun. :)

My favorite unplanned event was dancing in the rain in the dark with all of my children. We got soaked to the bone, but enjoyed every minute of it.
P.S. I'm not from the South, but I'm an Honorary Southern Belle and I LOVE grits. A college friend introduced me to them.
