Ode to Monday

Dear Monday,

I appear to have lost the weekend...can you assist in locating it? I know that I left the work week behind at approximately noon on Friday and I am already at my desk again! It is you, Monday in all your glory...songs have been written about you mostly the blues! I thought I would like to have Mondays off, however then your pal Tuesday would become "Monday" I seem to anxiously await your arrival on Sunday afternoons...a change of heart is needed...what if one looks at you as a new start to a new week...every day is fresh with possibilities even you poor maligned Monday...maybe you can be magical Monday, miraculous Monday or marvelous Monday!

So what about you dear readers, are you wishing your life away Monday through Friday...living for the weekends? My mom always says she doesn't have time to work. Everyone works...whether from their home, within the walls of their home or employment away from home. I "lose" my weekends because I generally over extend myself and my time. One of my "new" improved plans is to enjoy each day fully...why wait for two days of a "weekend" when there are five other days FULL of possibility!!! Join me in Monday Appreciation!!! How 'bout we use the good china today...

I know that I'm going to get cracked over the head for this, but I don't hate Mondays. I may not like them as much as, say Thursday, but I'm not a Monday hater.

I kind of like mondays- it's when everyone clears out of the house and I am free to breath. : )
I do know that feeling of where did the weekend go though. : )

that weekend time warp must have gone all the way up the coast.
Didn't I just leave here?

I love this. Such kindred spirits, we are. I have never minded Mondays very much. Now that I have a job that is my calling, I love them. Find them exciting. This week, though, it's Wednesday that is exciting. Back-to-school, you know.

Love this post! As a matter of fact, I like it so much that I think I'll use my good china and real silver tonight.

Sometimes I still have struggles with Monday. However, I often think of a Monday morning probably 25 years ago when I was so tired and overextended that I could hardly "go." My get up and go had got up and gone. I was walking into the building where my office was, and I found myself walking with an older women, a student who was probably about the age I am now. Did I mention it was raining and that I had already dressed, fed, and kissed two little girls good bye when I dropped them off at school...and that I had dressed, fed, hugged tightly, and reluctantly delivered my sweet baby son to day care at FBC?

But I digress. When this woman asked me how I was, I nonchalantly said something like, "It's Monday," as if that explained everything. She then told me about how her husband was completely bedridden and that she was his primary caregiver except for the few hours a week when she hired someone to watch him so that she could take a couple of classes. She then told me that any day a person could get up out of the bed and dress himself (or herself), get in a car, and drive somewhere that it was going to be a great day. Why I've remembered that after all these years, I don't know.

Did I mention that it was also raining that morning??

Now that hubby only has 4 days a week of work, we get a 3 day weekend, which we enjoy thoroughly... but we don't hate to see Monday come, because we are grateful he has a job at least! (I can't help thinking that originally it was "work 6 days, rest 1 day" - but maybe the key is making sure that we really do have a day of REST one day.

Hm, Mondays aren't my favourite, but since we're getting up at 4 every Saturday morning for ice skating lessons, the weekends aren't entirely the carefree fun and games they used to be. =)

What I notice is that it is curing me of that holding-your-breath-till-the-break-comes-along mentality, which has a positive effect on everything in my life. I never realized how much I unbalanced my life because of pushing through one more day for the sake of the 'weekend' - be it real weekends, or eating healthy, you get the idea.

(Love that cartoon up top!)

I had the "I hate Monday" feeling much more when I worked in an office as a corporate employee. Now if (as you say), I've had an overbooked weekend, I dread Monday but don't hate it.

I like your idea of trying to keep the work / fun balance more evenly distributed among the days.
